150 Years of History

A New Orleans Landmark

St. Roch Market opened on May 1, 1875, as an open-air public market at 2381 St. Claude Avenue in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally known as Washington Market, it quickly became the commercial heart of the surrounding community.

Through 150 years of change, including WPA-era renovations in the 1930s, devastation from Hurricane Katrina, and a transformative reopening in 2015, the market has operated as an incubator for independent food businesses. Today, under the stewardship of Kevin Pedeaux and Market Staples LLC, St. Roch Market houses twelve locally owned vendors, each building their own business inside a New Orleans landmark.
